Damavand is located about 70 km east of Tehran. The settlement was named after the nearby mountain. There is na inscription indicating far whom the building was built. Despite this, the name of Sheikh Shebeli is mentioned as the name of the builder. Sheikh Shebeli is also known as Abil Bakr Dulaf bin Jahdar el-Shibli. He was born in Bghdad in 861 and was the Governor of Damavand between 901-911. He returned Baghdad later and died Uıere. His tomb is in Baghdad. Thus, it is not known ta whom this building belongs; however, it is possible that the building is related ta Sheikh Shibli.

The building's exterior has an octagonal plan. it has a small tower on each corner of the octagon. The exterior is topped by a pyramid with eight faces. The building was repaired recently. There are two original niches above the entrance door. There is a rectangular space above the one niche and two rows of four stars with eight arms above this. There are different decorative compositions inside rectangular panels on each of the remaining seven faces. The foundations of the building rest on stone. The sarcophagus floor has a circular plan. The crypt floor has a square plan and is surmounted by a vault.

The wall surfaces have a distinctNe pattern on the lower section. The building's interior is covered by a dome. Descent ta the crypt floor is through an opening, immediately in front of the entrance. The crypt floor is small and has a rectangular plan.

There are various terracotta decorations between the bricks on the building's walls. This decoration is similar ta that of Damavand Juma Mosque. The niches containing stalactites, located at the entrance section of the building, are reminiscent of the niches of the Tim Arab Ata and lsmail Samani Tombs at Bukhara.
