KÖTÜR BRIDGE

Turkiye ERZİNCAN 13th Century

Özellikler

Currently in ruins, this bridge extended northeast-southwest over the Karasu River within the territory of Akyurt village on Tercan – Erzincan route. According to extant remains, the bridge was about 180 m long and only the pier-roads at the northeast and southwest ends have survived. Arches and piers have entirely disappeared. Existing vertical rectangular prismatic piers do not belong to the originally bridge but rather were built in the twentieth century. When the new road was built, former bridge’s piers were left to their own destiny.

The bridge lacks an inscription. Relatively authentic dressed stonework surviving on the northwest pier-road suggests that it was likely built in the thirteenth century during the Seljuk period.
